Eric Filgueiras
BIOGRAPHY
Eric Filgueiras was first introduced to motor racing when he and his father (then living in Miami) traveled to Homestead-Miami Speedway, where he met many stars of the open wheel circuit, with the most influential being Jimmy Vasser. It was then, at the age of 4 where after the experience of Vasser sitting him the car, and afterward asking if he wanted to also be a driver one day set his fate. Soon after then Eric’s parents purchased a second-hand kart, and it was “GO” from there!
Since then, Eric has made many incredible accomplishments in his still-young career. Some that are highlighted, but certainly not limited to; 2000/2001 Kid Kart National Champion, 2006 Easykart 60cc Regional, National, and Grand National Champion, which awarded him a free trip to Jesolo, Italy, were the young driver placed 36th out of 73, and was ranked 6th in the world. 2006 George Kugler Manufacturer’s Cup Sportsmanship of the year award. In 2007 Eric was crowned Champion of the Florida Winter Tour series in the Mini Max Category, winning 3 out of 6 races. 2009 Easykart 100cc Champion, where again he was awarded a trip to the World Finals, this time in Siena, Italy, where he placed 17th out of 62 competitors and was also the highest-ranking American in the 100cc category. For 2010 Filgueiras made the transition into a new form of racing: Formula 500 in the Sports Car Club of America, where the young driver drove himself to 2 race wins at Sebring International Raceway.
For the 2011 season Eric still competed in SCCA, as well as tested in an F2000 machine with Alegra Motorsports and HP-Tech Motorsports, which set him up for a runner- up spot in the inaugural Mazda Road to Indy Combine Selection. 2012 saw Filgueiras compete in the opening round on the USF2000 Championship Series, where he continues to grow as a driver. Filgueiras has been featured on the local Miami news at a very young age where he was shown in his 50cc kid kart. He has also been shown in many magazines like; KART Sport, Birel News, Go Racing Magazine, National Kart News, and WKA’s Karting Magazine. He also has had a display at Race Rock Café in Orlando, FL, as well as the McDonalds on Okeechobee road in West Palm Beach, FL. Eric is a Graduate from Space Coast High School, and is currently pursuing a career in Motorsports and furthering his education at Brevard Community College. Eric is truly an up-and-coming young champion who is someone to be followed as he makes his way up the Motorsports ladder!
